I’m sure we’ll get lots of use out of them while camping, fishing, hiking, and chasing lightning bugs. Helping parents get kids off screens and outside into nature, one adventure at a time. I’ve seen a site for a homemade teepee (tipi?) which I plan to do when my 3 yr old is older. I don’t know why this list is boy specific, there are no gifts on this list that wouldn’t be equally appropriate for a girl… Stupid. Magazine Subscription. My kids get super excited when they get mail! The Lego Club offers a free subscription to their magazine.

And a big part of the fun is going together. Children love spending time with the adults in their lives. They want to see you enjoying your time as well as enjoying them.
A sleeping bag.
The best thing about a 1st birthday is that the birthday girl or boy generally has no idea what’s going on, therefore there is zero expectations in terms of gifts. Which means you have a world of opportunity before they start asking you for Paw Patrol figurines and Frozen dolls. The best toys for 1 year olds are something that will keep them entertained for hours and also develop their essential skills at the same time. YOUR FAVORITE BOOK FROM YOUR CHILDHOOD. This is such a fun gift- give them a gift of memories & something that you can share… your favorite book from when you were their age. Re-read it with your child , and then talk about it.
And the umbrella was a huge hit here for a previous birthday, so I know that one’s a winner. You can’t go wrong with the fun selection fromLoungefly. They also have simplecoin pursesand a ton of fun character options fromStar WarstoDisneytoHello Kitty. What kid doesn’t dream of a new bike with a big red bow on it?!
A New Watch
We have this Osprey Poco Child Carrier that my 3.5 yr old still rides in on hikes occasionally. It’s perfect for walking trails with a good amount of storage yet comfortable for the whole day. I’ve created this list of the top 18 items that are useful, such as non-toy gifts or minimalist toys, and get played with in my house over and over. These toys are recycled 100% and are dishwasher safe. Each piece can easily slide into the chute cut-outs on both the bottom and top of the sorter, which opens by a single twist.
This hammer has a unique design to save your fingers! The head of the hammer features a slot that magnetically fits nails to help get you started without needing to hold the nail down. Having their own set is special and makes working easier for them. Add everything to a pot with some dirt and seeds, and they can grow something fun right away.
Kids’ Suitcases
Give each kid a coupon for a date night out with mom and dad that they can redeem at any time. If you have kids who are into science at all, a microscope or science kit is the way to go for a non-toy Christmas gift. What better way for them to explore and learn. There are also sites that curate subscription boxes, like CrateJoy, and you can find nearly ANY topic for kids or adults. If your child or grandchild loves to color, consider these giant coloring posters that provide hours of coloring fun. We sometimes do these all together as a family, as they're big enough to work on together.
One of my nephew's favorite gifts was a swing set. It encouraged him to use his imagination while getting outdoors and having fun. An easy-to-set up swingset tops the list of non-toy gifts for kids that can be used for years.
The towel or small gift will give them something tangible to help anticipate the sun and the sand. My kids have used them as capes for superheroes, skirts, dresses, wraps to carry their baby dolls, over chairs and couches to make a fort, the possibilities are endless. Little ones love looking at pictures of family members and of themselves doing things or at special places. In many online photo sites, you can create a photo book of all the special people and special things the child has done. The fabric is super soft and light, so kids won’t get too hot when they’re wearing them, and it's safe to toss into the washer and dryer after each wear. These are colorful and ideal for teething toddlers, since they have a silicone-like texture that's safe and comfortable for chewing.
I am a teacher turned play therapist and stay at home Mom. I love to share my organization tips, kid ideas, money-saving tips and recipes with you. A PERSONALIZED BOOK This will always be a favorite of mine because I still have mine from when I was little.
There are many places that take charitable donations, help those in need and send a card or a plush animal to someone you love. We personally like World Vision and Compassion International. Any of these products would make for a great gift for a one-year-old, so you really can’t go wrong with any of them. However, the Fisher-Price Rollin’ Rovee and The Play Kit Table & Chairs rank highest for us for a toy, and the EZPZ Happy Bowl is our favorite gift for a caregiver of a 1-year-old. This teddy bear plays white noise to soothe your baby to sleep.
Combine one of those fun activities with something that will give you some quality face time to create a special parent/child date. Others just haven’t found a good book yet. Dig around and find some great books at their reading level, then give it to them along with a reading lamp and let them stay up past their bedtime reading. What they really need is to have their imaginations stirred, their desire to learn stoked, their urge to do grown-up things encouraged, and their relationships built up. Kids will totally end up playing with animal counters, but we keep ours in a small bucket and bring them out when everything else is put away. We stack colors together, match mamas to babies, make patterns, practice adding and subtracting.
Use this wavy knife for vegetables and add some fun to your salads, vegetables and more. Choppers and “knives” are fantastic for wonderful who want to explore in the kitchen. A seriously useful gift that would go brilliantly with a new raincoat or cute pair of rainboots. They’ll love one of these amazing color-changing umbrellas from Stephen Joseph, or pick one ofHatley’s graphic printsfor a slightly more grown-up feel.
